"5 Ways A Home Automation System can Transform a House into an Advanced & Optimally Performing Living Space"Home automation systems have many facets and a wide scope for customised configuration and design tailored exactly to your needs and desires. You might be new to this type of system and looking for information about how things work and where it can be applied. If so, you've come to the right place. What is Home Automation? You may have heard the terms Smart Home, Intelligent Home, Home Hontrol or Building Control. Basically they are all one and the same thing. An electronic system used to control the features/installations (i.e. lights, blinds heating etc) within a residence for the purpose of added convenience, energy efficiency or, in most cases, simply for the kudos of owning such a luxury item. The system we have found to be most effective for our clients is called KNX. Without over exaggerating, KNX proudly proclaims to be the Worlds No.1 Building Control System. There are a number of reasons for this accolade and why it is used in such a wide variety of installations, i.e. London Heathrow Terminal 5, The British Library, Schools, Hotels, Theme parks and, of course, Modern Luxury Homes. KNX - Doing it Differently Unlike other systems, KNX is unique in many ways.
What KNX can do for You? You can find a fuller list of application areas within the "Inside Home Automation. 'Tips & Tricks' for the Modern Living Space" guide. Just fill in the form and a copy will be on it's way to you. So what makes KNX the perfect choice for intelligent home control? Here are a seven of the most effective and most enjoyed features: 1. Central/Group control: One of the most convenient aspects of KNX. You can apply this feature locally (room-by-room) or globally (all rooms). Locally: Suitable for use when leaving the room for any length of time or simply when going to bed, with one touch you can ensure lights are illuminated, blinds are closed, heating is reduced to standby/night mode and the TV / Sound system is switched off. Globally: Yet again, one touch control. Except this time, with a predefined exit button, you can effectively shut-down your home as you leave head to work, go shopping or leave for any other reason. People grow to love the additional convenience of being able to turn off all lights, reduce heating in all rooms, open/close every set of blinds, switch off of all TVs and even close all windows (motorised) as you walk out the door. Then, when arriving back, an aptly named “Entry” button can reverse this sequence of events. 2. Smartphone Apps: Allowing full control of a KNX powered Smart Home anywhere, anytime via Apple or Android powered devices. Also, capable of remote system monitoring (i.e. lighting levels, blinds positions, heating modes, energy consumption data, etc) Total home control within the palm of your hand. 3. Presence Simulation: Probably the best way to secure your home during periods of absence. You can easily increase home security when on holidays, business trips or for any length of time away by making it appear to onlookers like you’re still actually at home. With this feature, you record all system actions taken over a defined period of time and simply play them back on a repeat loop whilst you’re away. Throughout the recording phase, every time you switch or dim lights, raise or lower blinds, open or close curtains, you have the ability re-play these actions until you come back home. Or even operate the playback sequence remotely. Weeks of data can be recorder for playback if so desired. 4. Panic Button: Experience an overwhelmingly feeling of safety with this unique feature. Imagine the scene... You’re awoken in the middle of the night by strange noises coming from somewhere in the house. Someone, who shouldn't be is in your home. What would you do?... Panic? Hide? Protect your family? Or most likely venture in to the dark to face confrontation? With KNX, neither of these reactions are necessary. Simply hit the panic button by your bedside and one finger stroke would turn on every light inside and outside the house. Chasing off any would be intruder. No fumbling around in the dark with orientation LEDs illuminating the button. 5. User-defined Room Profiles: At a single touch, you can call-up your favourite settings depending on your mood or situation. Movie time: Turn off main light, dim wall lights by 50%, close blinds and set heating to comfort mode all at the touch of a single button. Ideal for those cosy moments in front of the TV. During the night: Sensors detect movement throughout the house during twilight hours and suitably highlight the path taken by sleepwalkers and late night fridge-raiders with reduced light levels. Time delayed to switch off when your back to bed. Insider Information If you would like to find out more, click the link a copy of the "Inside Home Automation.
